Youth Scholarships

The VFW is dedicated to promoting patriotism and investing in our future generation. If you are a democracy-loving high school student interested in a $35,000 college scholarship or a patriotic middle school student interested in winning $5,000, these scholarships may be for you.

The 2024-25 theme for Voice of Democracy is: "Is America Today Our Forefathers' Vision?"

The 2024-25 theme for Patriot's Pen is: "My Voice in America's Democracy?"

Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen; Student entries due to the Post-October 31, 2024.  

Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen; Completion of Post judging- November 15, 2024

Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen; Completion of District judging due to State HQ- December 15, 2024

A satirical reflection by Author/Artist Phil Fehrenbacher

Phil enlisted in the Army in 1965 where you served for years in Vietnam.  He became a graphic designer and has worked for the state of Oregon for 26 years.  He retired in 2003 and started the Cartoon "In-Country".  The cartoons reflect his experiences during his tour of duty in South Vietnam.


There is a new cartoon everyday.
